One of the nicest things about getting media credentials is the hospitality afforded! Right now, I’m sitting in a bar in Charlotte, courtesy of VisitMyrtleBeach.com and The Congressional Black Caucus Institute. The streets outside are packed; it’s cool, quiet with a buffet of southern cuisine & cold drinks, power to recharge batteries and secure internet access.

Yesterday afternoon was a meeting/briefing by Veterans And Military Families. Several Veterans organizations gave talks about legislation affecting Veterans; especially IAVA.org (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America). The IAVA speaker said he was giving the same talk he gave to the GOP down in Tampa at the GOP Convention (said GOP convention being, per the ol’ TwoPutter’s description on Twitter: #Willard’s #WhopperThon). He stressed the importance of Defending The G.I. Bill. This subject will be covered in detail over the next few weeks. A highlight was meeting a 91 year old WWII Veteran and Convention Delegate named Stephen Sherman, who started the Dorie Miller Memorial Foundation.

Last night Team Obama held a new media Happy Hour; it was at a bar (yes, I’ve been in several of ‘em whilst here!) next to The PPL’s HQ. Three staffers talked about what the campaign was doing, and where it would be going post-endorsement. The place was packed with new media types from all over; it was fun renewing acquaintance with a Minnesotan now in NYC who is working with SaveGranny.org; she worked on a quick video about what happens if what Lyin’ Ryan & His Pal Willard get their “plan” passed.

This morning the Minnesota & South Dakota Delegations had the opportunity to hear Newark Mayor Cory Booker – before he trashed his ankle. DFL Chair Ken Martin gave a rousing intro to Governor Mark Dayton, who gave a great talk – and then Booker knocked it over the fence and out of the park. His speech should be on prime-time TV. Luchelle Stevens talked Voter ID and State Senator Scott Dibble finished the morning session with a talk about the anti-equality ballot the GOP stuck on the ballot this fall. If you’re watching the Convention tonight, look for all the Vote No tee shirts in the Minnesota Delegation.

One of the many things I’ve really enjoyed here in Charlotte is the food – to give you an idea of what’s here, here’s a quick YouTube – let’s look!

More, later.

DNC Convention Notes, Morning Of Day 2

On September 2, 2012, in DFL Events, Videos, by tommy

Charlotte is turning out to be a great choice for Host City for the 2012 Democraic Convention. It’s big enough, but not too big – and the Host Committee is making the RNC Convention in Tampa look pathetic already. Last night was a Media Reception that was an incredible success. Held at the North Carolina Music Factory and in every venue within it, over 15,000 people partied in a way that sets a new standard for Host Cities. Rather than putting everyone in one big room, it was a series of parties with a genre for everyone, starting with local comedians roasting everything at The Comedy Zone (and I have to say, Dusty Trice’s stand up act was hilarious!) to every kind of music act anyone would want to hear. The Convention’s Host Committee has gone above the call of duty to include as much local influence as it could.

One aspect that hits home for yours truly, the ol’ TwoPutter, is making this convention as acessible as possible for new media – such as bloggers! Literally next door to the Convention Center is a group called The PPL (think=”people”), where I’m headed shortly to check in and receive credentials. Let’s look!

As always, I’ll be tweeting throughout the day – stay tuned!

Ladies and Gentlemen, yours truly – the ol’ TwoPutter – is Guest Hosting this afternoon’s Tuesday Edition of “Quick On The UpTake” from 5:00 to 6:00pm on AM-950 KTNF, The Voice of Minnesota. Mike McIntee is taking some well-earned time time off. I’ll be joined in studio by the intrepid political analyst, Dusty Trice!

In addition to talking about important news, we’ll take a break from politics to have an in-studio conversation with one of Minnesota’s Citizen-Soldiers – Major Rickert – which we feel is fitting as a tribute to those who have worn the uniform on this day after Memorial Day. Major Rickert will be talking, among other things, about the recent alert that as many as 2,700 fellow Minnesotans may be deployed to Iraq and Kuwait as that war winds down.

We’ll also be joined in-studio by candidate for congress in Minnesota’s 2nd District, Dan Powers.

Mike is actually taking this week off; tomorrow MPP’s very own The Big E will be behind the microphone, and I’ll be covering again on Thursday and Friday!

While I’ll let The Big E write about what he’s got planned for tomorrow’s show, I do want to let folk know what we’ve got for Thursday – you’re not going to want to miss it!

We’re going to be interviewing (again!) best-selling author and weekly opinion columnist for the Wall Street Journal, Thomas Frank! Thomas Frank’s latest book is The Wrecking Crew – How Conservatives Ruined Government, Enriched Themselves, And Beggared The Nation”. Mr. Frank is a great conversationalist, and we’re lucky to have him on for a whole half-hour!!!

If you need a copy of “The Wrecking Crew”, AM950 sponsor CommonGoodBooks.com has it! They also have Frank’s other books, like “What’s The Matter With Kansas?”. Oh – and tell ‘em TwoPutt sent ya, will ya?

Ladies and Gentlemen, yours truly – the ol’ TwoPutter – is Guest Hosting this afternoon’s Friday Edition of “Quick On The UpTake” from 5:00 to 6:00pm on AM-950 KTNF, The Voice of Minnesota. “Quick On The UpTake” Host Mike McIntee is busily preparing for the last Political Party State Convention; the IP Party is meeting in Bloomington tomorrow. I’ll be joined in studio by Spot from The Cucking Stool!

And, to no surprise, we’ll be talking about The State Supreme Court’s spanking of Gov. TBag for creating a problem by 1- signing the next biennium’s spending bills into law and then 2- vetoing the revenue bill to match “income” to said lawfully-enacted spending bills (“balance the budget”) and then 3- violating state law by unilaterally slashing spending on bills TBag just signed; which, of course, was 4- BEFORE the start of the next biennium.

Spot has several great posts over at The Cucking Stool on TBag getting spanked; you’ll want to listen in to Spot’s take on this! As always, call 952-946-6205 to join the conversation!

As always on Friday’s Edition of Quick On The UpTake, we’ll also be getting a call from Dane Smith from GrowthAndJustice.org.

Ladies and Gentlemen, yours truly – the ol’ TwoPutter – is Hosting tonight’s Friday Edition of “Minnesota Matters” on AM-950 KTNF, The Voice of Minnesota for the final regularly scheduled time. The Minnesota Matters Show had a different host every weeknight, and it was fun while it lasted. Due to changes in the Weeknight Hosts’ personal schedules, AM 950 has decided to go with one Host for every night/all week, starting Monday. So, it’s back to the bench for pinch-hit/fill-in duty for me! Such is the bidness o’ radio… On tonight’s last regularly scheduled show, I’ll be joined in studio by MPP’s very own Big E and ace field reporter/analyst, Dusty Trice!

In addition to talking about breaking news, and absentee Gov. TBag getting caught with his hands in the cookie jar, we’ll be talking about New Media – including blogging and social media sites. Plus, we’ll be having a conversation with DFL Gubernatorial Candidate, Matt Entenza!

Oh – the “Secret Prize” for tonight’s show, courtesy of show sponsor Common Good Books, will be one copy of Bill Prendergast’s exceptional comic book: “False Witness! The Michele Bachmann Story (Volume 3)”!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, yours truly – the ol’ TwoPutter – is Guest Hosting tonight’s Wednesday Edition of “Minnesota Matters” on AM-950 KTNF, The Voice of Minnesota. I’ll be joined in studio by ace field reporter and analyst, Dusty Trice!

In addition to talking about breaking news, and absentee Gov. TBag getting caught with his hands in the cookie jar, we’ll be talking again with Mike Tikkanen, author of “Invisible Children (The American cycle of abuse and its cost).” Mike Tikkanen is the founder of Kid’s At Risk Action Group (KARA), a non-profit devoted to protecting and advocating for the rights of abused children. If you are concerned about the least among us, and those that Mike advocates for – children – are just that, this is a show you won’t want to miss.

Especially because the following quote is sure to be discussed:

“Children who are victims of failed personal responsibility are not my problem, nor are they the problem for our government.” — Majority Leader Tim Pawlenty, April 2001 – as quoted in the Aitkin Independent Newspaper (entire column available here)

And in honor of the recent release of “False Witness! The Michele Bachmann Story (Volume 3), we’ll definitely play “False Or False Witness!” where one lucky caller will have to correctly identify if a quote I read was actually uttered by Michele Bachmann (answer “False Witness!”) or if yours truly, the ol’ TwoPutter, simply made it up (answer “false”). The fabulous prize awarded, courtesy of show sponsor Common Good Books, is one copy of Bill Prendergast’s exceptional comic book: “False Witness! The Michele Bachmann Story (Volume 3)”!!!

Tonight’s quote is one that clearly demonstrates something I always say:

“Hypocrisy, Thy Party Is GOP”

That was the scene at the entrance to last Saturday’s MnGOP Convention. Dusty Trice, noted and intrepid blogger and my “go to” in-the-field reporter for my radio show, has video – it’s beyond the fold.

A little background (as I’ve written about here and here and here):

Lieutenant Colonel Joe Repya was so disgusted by the (s)election of FEC Tony and MudSlingerMike (a/k/a, “The MSM”), that he published an op/ed in the PiPress on the reasons he was leaving the Republican Party, now led by FEC Tony and MudSlinger Mike (a/k/a, “The MSM”). While that Op/Ed is no longer available on the PiPress website, comments on that Op/Ed are. Nathan Hansen, GOP Deputy Chair of CD-4, did comment – here’s what he had to say:

I am Deputy Chair of the Fourth Congressional District and one of the newer anti-war Republican activists. It’s difficult for words to describe how happy I am that you are leaving our Party. The roots of your “neconservative” philosophy lie in Straussian Trotzkyite Communism. “Corporate money” influencing our Party? Nothing compared to the damage your military industrial complex (that Eisenhower warned us about) has wreaked on our Party and our Country.

I hope you will find a happy home among your fellow communists. Your days of endless illegal wars and military industrial complex domination of our party are over.
Obama is ramping up his War in Afghanistan and continues to illegally bomb Pakistan. Perhaps you can join him to satiate your bloodlust. (emphasis added) (PiPress)

That’s comment number 15 from the link, above.

Well, there’s a lot – a LOT – of veterans of the Viet Nam War that remember being greeted none-to-nicely, upon arriving “home.” Some of ‘em remember bein’ spit on – yes, literally SPIT ON – upon arriving home from rice paddys. And Nathan Hansen’s comments reminded them exactly of that – reminded them of bein’ SPIT ON.

As written before, how did ol’ FEC Tony handle Nathan Hansen figuratively spitting on Lieutenant Colonel Joe Repya in particular, and all – ALL – veterans in general?

Well, again – as I wrote: GOPer Party Official Trashes Veteran Joe Repya And Is Rewarded.

And that “reward” was a prestigeous committee chair assignment at last Saturday’s GOP Convention.

Now, to be fair, it should be noted that prior to the GOP Convention, Nathan Hansen did a non-apology apology.

Yeah, “right.”

That “Me-a Not-a Culpa” was B as in “Bull” and S as in “(stuff)” then and it still is now. Nathan Hansen may have apologized to veterans at the GOP Convention, but as of this writing, he still hasn’t apologized to Lieutenant Colonel Joe Repya, and he still has his B as in “Bull” and S as in “(stuff)” law suits going against veterans Joe Salmon and Richard Glasgow.

Which, of course, leads to the following conclusion: somehow, I don’t think Nathan Hansen’s ties to FEC Tony and MudSlingerMike (a/k/a “The MSM”) are going to be forgotten anytime soon.

Oh – and Dusty Trice’s video, of the Veterans protesting the MN GOP? Let’s look!!!

Say, Michael? You never served, nor did Nathan. Well, neither did ol’ FEC Tony, neither. Here’s something y’all should know: veterans got long memories.
